Susi Snyder, Director of Programmes International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN)
Susi Snyder is the Director of Programmes for the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), where she facilitates the design and delivery of ICAN’s strategic objectives, including divestment initiatives and engagement with the financial sector. Susi previously served as ICAN’s president, including when the organisation won the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. For more than a decade, she has coordinated Don’t Bank on the Bomb, a leading effort to end financial support for companies involved in nuclear weapons production. An expert on nuclear weapons with over two decades of experience at the intersection of nuclear policy and human rights, she has contributed to Forbidden (2023), A World Free from Nuclear Weapons (2020), Sleepwalking to Armageddon (2017) and the War and Environment Reader (2018).
Her commentary has appeared in Project Syndicate, CNBC, 360 Magazine, Quartz, The Intercept, HuffPost, U.S. News & World Report, The Guardian, and on Deutsche Welle, Al Jazeera, Democracy Now, among others. Ms Snyder is a Foreign Policy Interrupted/Bard College Fellow (2020) and a Nuclear Free Future Award Laureate (2016). She previously worked with PAX on humanitarian disarmament and served as Secretary-General of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) at its Geneva secretariat. Earlier, she was named a “Hero of Las Vegas” (2001) for advocacy with Indigenous communities opposing U.S. nuclear weapons development and nuclear waste dumping. She lives in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
